Lagged Roller Description

Material transported on a conveyor belt tends to adhere to the belt and return rollers, resulting in a buildup of "dust" on the rollers, which can lead to belt tracking problems on the belt.

To minimize this buildup, HengGuang rollers can be covered with rubber or polyurethane to provide a surface to limit adhesion to the rollers.

The thickness of the overmold is typically 6 mm. The rubber grade can be standard or can include FR (Fire Resistant) or FRAS (Fire Resistant Antistatic) where required for operation.

Lagged roller overmolding is the process of covering the surface of a roller or pulley to increase traction, prevent premature wear, improve alignment between the lagged roller/pulley and the belt, and extend the overall life of the system. Overmolding is also used to protect the surface of the roller or pulley from damaging media such as rocks, abrasive materials and/or chemicals. Belt pulley and roller coverings are commonly used in conveyor applications.

Materials

Pulley and drum cover materials typically include

Rubber

Ceramic products

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)

Urethane

Specifications

Typically, there are two methods of manufacturing pulley and roller coverings: by steam processing or by molding. The cover rubber is usually steam cured and coated with rubber that has undergone steam pressure application. Pulley and roller coverings can also be manufactured using a molding process in which the material is not steam cured. Molded pulley and roller overlays are typically more stable, provide better grip, and often last up to four times longer.

Some specialty pulley and roller covers include ceramic pieces inserted into the rubber cover and/or a ceramic coating on the rubber cover. Both ceramic and rubber overlays can look like tires, as many surface textures allow for high traction and water loss. Some common patterns exhibited by pulleys and overlays.

Pulley and drum wraps are also available in strips, bars, coatings, coils, sheets and sleeves. Strip and bar overlays are narrow configurations attached to pulleys and rollers. Pulley and roller wraps are liquid materials applied to the wrapped surface. Once cured and adhered, the coating provides a protective layer.

Other types of pulley and roller wraps include rollers, sheets and sleeves. A roll configuration is a long, narrow material wrapped in a roll. Sheets are whole sheets of material that are typically cut to size and used to completely cover the surface of the pulley and/or pulley. Pulley and roller wraps slide over the pulleys and rollers. All configurations of pulley and roller covers can be applied by using adhesives, bolts or welding.

Features

Considerations for selecting a pulley and roller wrap include the thickness and width of the desired wrap, the length of the pulley and roller, and the length of the wrap itself. Depending on the brand and manufacturer, other factors may also need to be considered.

In almost all applications, lagging drive pulleys/rollers are critical to the efficient operation of belt conveyors. They provide a positive driving force in all applications-indoors and on-site.

Types of encapsulation include:

40 duro rubber-3mm and 6mm sheets

White nitrile rubber – 6mm piece

Black rubber diamond encapsulation – 200mm strip

White pit lagging – 50mm tape
